About us

UNESCO club is a non-profit organization working with and in favour of young people. The members and the volunteers of UNESCO Club work in the field of education and culture in the city of Haskovo, Bulgaria. The club’s members have participated in youth initiatives, demanding the active and untraditional thinking of youths. UNESCO Club has implemented projects under the PHARE – ACCESS Program of the European Union and it has been a partner in the conduction of the campaigns for raising the electoral activity of the young people - “You Choose” - 2003 and “I am young and I vote” – 2005.

UNESCO club carries out its activities in partnership with local authorities and other local organizations.

Its  project "Blue Zone of Nonviolence at Schools" / 2006- 2007/ was funded by the National Agency of Youth and Sport and was implemented in 5 towns in the region of Haskovo. The volunteers, participants in the project used the methodology of “peer education”. Through the means of theatre acting and discussions with the spectators the students from the high schools came close to the problem of violence in schools and ways of solving conflicts.

UNESCO club is executing a project “Establishing an Informational Consultative Youth Centre” for Haskovo region under the National Program, financed by the State Agency for Youth and Sports 2007- 2008. The project provides informational and psychological services, consultations and educations for young people aged from 14 to 35 years.
The association is a founder-member of International Association of Non-governmental Organizations from Trace Region.

FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF UNESCO CLUBS OF ESTABLISHMENT OF YOUTH IT Consulting Center - Haskovo, conducted with financial support of STATE AGENCY FOR YOUTH AND SPORT ON NATIONAL PROGRAM YOUTH CONSULTATION INFORMATION CENTERS, 2007 - 2010 D. "
For one year from December 18, 2007 to December 18 .2008 The Informational centre - Haskovo became friendly and accessible to young people from different cultural communities, with different personnel, labor and social status of different backgrounds aged 14 to 35 years.
In organizing the project activities: information and consulting services, training, volunteer initiatives, campaigns / national and international / participation in youth exchanges, participation in forums, marking the European and national youth events have been involved over 1400 young people from the town of Haskovo and the region.
Young people from the regional towns receive timely information and opportunities for enhancing their education, personal realization and participation in international youth events and initiatives. The centre established site is visited by 1 323 people from 25 countries.
The Centre -Haskovo has more than 50 volunteers, 16 of whom are young workers. Volunteers had trainings for increasing their social and civic activity. Various initiatives was carried out: World Youth Days activity, the International Day of Youth, the European Youth Week, the national initiatives planted a tree and the presidential campaign for "Nice is our forest”, Day against racism and xenophobia, International Tolerance Day, and proposals were made to the Municipal Council to improve environmental and social environment of the city. 150 young people from the town of Haskovo and the region participated in these initiatives. ICYC created and worked in partnerships with youth organizations and schools in Haskovo region. There were mobile information and training services in Dimitrovgrad, Svilengrad, Topolovgrad, Madjarovo and villages in Haskovo municipality.
The Center conducted a broad international activity. Participated as partners in international youth exchanges in Austria, Spain, England, Greece and Turkey in group included young from the field. We had a player of the World Youth Forum "Ethics in Business", the European Forum for better opportunities including young disabled people in public life - both held in Brussels.
The project created a so-called "Free Zone" in which young people have the opportunity to develop personal and social initiative, their creative potential. That was the area where young people can realize their nonstandard ideas.

The implementation of this project answered to Measure 5: “Supporting development, personal and creative potential of children and young people” in implementing the Program for the Realization of the Plan for the Development of the Municipality of Haskovo 2007 – 2013 in Action 12: Creating youth centers with modern equipment and Internet communications and Action 14: Organization of Youth Parliament ,and Action 15: A program to enhance young people's civic culture in the city of Haskovo.
Implementation of these activities under the project trained the basis for establishing the Regional Youth Council. Volunteers considered, drafted and submitted a proposal to the City Council, supported by subscription among young people to adopt the Revised European Charter for the Participation of Youth in the Life of Municipalities and Regions. With this proposal young people stated their desire to be involved in solving major social problems of the city and work for its development and prosperity.
The project received wide public support and publicity through local and regional media, which reflect accurately and on time the activities, events that were organized and conducted by Informational and Consultative Youth Centre - Haskovo.
